Bieber Mania has gripped the planet. At the age of 17, Justin Bieber has released two albums, both of which have been certified platinum in the US alone. ‘Artist of the Year’ at the 2010 AMA, ‘Best New Artist’ and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 53rd Grammy – Justin Bieber has taken the world by a storm. What makes him such a hit? Why is Justin Bieber attracting a fan following of millions? What makes him a celebrity? Is it the talent? Or is he simply a product of new age marketing? Let’s find out.

Justin Bieber’s rise to stardom: Where is the talent?

As we all know, Justin Bieber rose to stardom from the internet. What made him so special? Well his mother began posting recordings of him singing in local competitions on the internet. Okay, let’s rewind and see where the talent came from. Do you know that Bieber taught himself to play the drums, guitar, piano and the trumpet? For all you critics out there, let us tell you that that’s a massive task! Try teaching yourself even one instrument and you’ll find out that it is not a walk in the park. So there you have it – a child prodigy who had taught himself 5 different instruments at the age of 12. The talent is definitely there.

Justin Bieber’s rise to stardom: Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun

Scooter Braun is a talent manager. He has previously worked with big names like Eminem, Usher, Ludacris and many more. Okay, we are not going to bore you with his biography but to cut a long story short – he is the one who discovered Bieber on YouTube and later became his manager. Do you know what Braun asked Bieber to do after he signed him on? He did not give Justin a stage to perform nor an album to make right away. Justin was asked to amplify his presence on YouTube. As a marketing strategy, he made Justin sing in a room and recorded the sessions with an inexpensive camera. The idea behind this was to give the audience a raw feel and get them involved. Did you know that the hit ‘One Time’ began selling quickly only after it was uploaded on YouTube? Millions of YouTube hits later, Justin Bieber became a celebrity.

Justin Bieber’s rise to stardom: In the age of Internet

We think that the way Bieber and his associates have used the internet is amazing. Who would have thought a decade back that a 17 year old would become a celebrity by using platforms like YouTube and Twitter? Its one thing to promote yourself in this electronic world and its another thing to captivate millions across the globe by posting raw and uncut videos of your performances. Bieber’s Twitter account had 6 million followers in November 2010. We think the internet has been the single most important thing in giving Bieber the ‘Celebrity’ tag. Publicity, fame and following – Bieber has milked the resources of the online world to his advantage.

Justin Bieber’s rise to stardom: Justin Bieber and RBMG

Raymond Braun Media Group (RGBM) is the work of Scooter Braun and Usher. They have been instrumental in Bieber’s rising popularity. Braun, Usher and many other key players from their team have been shaping Bieber’s look, public image and style. Can you even imagine what it would be like to have such resources and industry insiders at your fingertips? We think it’s phenomenal! RBMG and its key players have played a monumental role in shaping Bieber’s public image and helping him to manage his fame.

Justin Bieber’s rise to stardom: Critics

Bieber’s critics have ripped him apart. Believe us, these are your average critics who’ll put you down for a bad performance. Bieber has been the target of hate mail, death threats and online pranks. His hair, age, looks and singing style – everything has been the target of these bloodhounds. Now the question is – Who wins in the End? Bieber or his critics? It is a question only time will tell. But for now, Justin Bieber’s celebrity status is only being amplified further by the massive critic attack because he is being talked about day in and day out. Sometimes all this sledging works in Bieber’s favor because he gets publicity without paying a penny.

Justin Bieber has definitely pulled the right strings to get him to where he is right now. Why is he a celebrity? We think it is a mix of immense talent and superb marketing. Definitely a celebrity on our cards, and millions of others! Are you a Belieber?
